It is often
popular for a leader of a group to have a theme or motto to help set the goals
and a path to reach those goals and objectives.
Mine was The Starfish Story, you know the one.
I was born
and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, a city that stretches along beside a 26
mile stretch of beach. It was also a time when I was the District Director for
Business and Professional Women Organization in the state of Florida whose
mission statement is:
TO ACHIEVE
EQUITY FOR ALL WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE THROUGH ADVOCACY FOR WORKING WOMEN.
The
objective of the group is to elevate women through education. Programs have
been developed to be used at the local level for BPW’s local clubs across the
state to use. Members thrive and enhance professional skills and leadership
abilities such as individual development skills, women in transition programs,
mentoring, young careerist, and the BPW/Fl. Leadership Institute.
Setting
goals is a very important tool for success whether it is a personal endeavor or
as a leader of a group. Knowing what you wish to accomplish and a reminder to
stay the course one step at a time, for me it was the star fish that reminded
me that reaching one woman at a time makes a difference, I still have my star
fish necklace to remind me each day.
Now I pass this message on to my daughter. She now has a Starfish necklace and a framed photo of the Starfish Story.
